Eye Care
Around our eyes, the skin is extremely thin, sensitive, and usually also relatively dry. This means that both women and men often have to struggle with bags under the eyes, crow’s feet and dark circles. However, such problems can be alleviated with high-quality eye care. Appropriate products are characterized by a special composition that is optimally adapted to the sensitive eye area.
What makes high-quality eye care?
Moisture is the most important thing for the eye area. It is best supplied from the outside via natural moisturizers. Two recommended examples are hyaluronic acid and glycerin. Both substances are components of our skin’s own moisturizing system anyway. Lipid-containing substances are also important for eye care. The lipids contribute to the fact that less moisture evaporates from our skin. The natural fats of shea butter and squalane, a component of our skin barrier, are particularly effective.
If the skin around the eyes is very dry, the eye care should be somewhat richer.
Vitamins, for example, can also provide more moisture, especially panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) and vitamin E. While panthenol minimizes small wrinkles caused by dryness by optimally moisturizing the skin, vitamin E makes our skin barrier more resistant. To prevent wrinkles in general, the collagen structure around the eye area should also be strengthened. Vitamin C is particularly suitable for high-quality eye care, as it not only combats free radicals but also boosts collagen production. Retinol is similarly effective.
How eye care differs from classic care products
Products of a high-quality eye care should be as low in irritants and mild as possible and should be free of alcohol and fragrances. Creeping and/or artificial oils should also be taboo for the skin around the eyes. Whether eye care can remedy problems such as dark circles and bags under the eyes depends on the product’s formula. If it contains high-quality hyaluronic acid, for example, it gently plumps up the skin so that retractions are less noticeable. A cooling gel, on the other hand, can help puffiness around the eyes subside.
When should eye care be started?
Around the age of 30, eye care should be part of the daily skin care routine. Eye creams are ideally applied in the morning and evening, each time after cleansing the skin and before the day or night cream. To improve the effect of the product, it is recommended to dab the cream onto the eye area and then massage it in with gentle tapping movements. This stimulates the lymphatic flow and blood circulation.
