Skin Disease Psoriasis

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a non-contagious, inflammatory skin disease. It is also a systemic disease possibly affecting other organs, primarily affecting the joints and associated ligaments. The adjacent soft tissues are also affected, as well as the eyes, vascular systems, and the heart. It can also lead to diabetes and stroke.

It essentially manifests itself as very scaly, pinpoint to palm-sized patches of skin. Skin disease psoriasis is often associated with itching and changes in the nails can also be observed.

Approximately 125 million people worldwide are affected, including about 2 million in Germany and 5 million in the USA.

Effects of the skin disease psoriasis

A healthy skin cell ages between 28 and 45 days. However, a skin cell that is infected with skin disease psoriasis ages in a period of between three and six days.

Studies have shown that infected cytokines have caused growing insulin resistance in the liver and muscle. They also destroy insulin-producing cells of the pancreas, which leads to a dramatic increase in the likelihood of getting diabetes. Those with high levels of psoriasis are twice as likely to get diabetes, and those with mild psoriasis are 1.5 times more likely.

Psoriasis is not gender-dependent and can occur at any age, although it is most common between the ages of 20 and 30.

It is also thought that psoriasis may be hereditary, as one third of all patients have family members who are also affected.

Remedies and therapies for skin disease psoriasis

There are many treatments for psoriasis, but it is best to start with those that have the fewest side effects. These include topical steroids, such as cortisone cream, topical vitamin D supplements, lotions, but also cautious exposure to the sun. Cosmetics offer lotions with more than 10% evening primrose oil that reduce itching during acute flare-ups. Other plant oils with a high content of linoleic or linolenic acid are also beneficial.

If this does not help, stronger methods should be used, including the use of medication.

The most effective method is a combination of the two methods mentioned above.

Which cosmetic agents are suitable for treating skin disease psoriasis?

Skin disease psoriasis as an inflammatory skin condition caused by an overactive immune response. Symptoms can include scaling, itching, redness and inflammation. There are a variety of cosmetic agents that can be used in the treatment of skin disease psoriasis. Here are some of them:

  1. salicylic acid: salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent that removes dead skin cells and can reduce scaling. It can also help to reduce inflammation.
  2. urea: urea is a moisturiser that can help to smooth and hydrate dry and flaky skin.
  3. vitamin D3: vitamin D3 can help regulate immune responses in the skin and reduce inflammation. It can be taken orally as a dietary supplement. Pro-vitamin D3 (7-dehydrocholesterol) may be used in cosmetics.
  4. colloidal oatmeal: colloidal oatmeal can help soothe and smooth the skin by reducing inflammation and preserving moisture.
  5. capsaicin: capsaicin is an active ingredient found in peppers that can help reduce itching and pain by blocking the release of pain messengers.
  6. tea tree oil: tea tree oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and can therefore be helpful in the treatment of psoriasis skin disease.

It is important to note that skin disease psoriasis is a complex condition and not all agents may be effective for all patients.

Is CBD and/or bee venom also suitable to alleviate skin disease psoriasis?

There is some evidence that both CBD (cannabidiol) and bee venom may be helpful in treating skin disease psoriasis, but further research is needed to confirm their efficacy and safety.

CBD is a non-psychoactive compound derived from the hemp plant. CBD has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect and may therefore help relieve inflammation in skin disease psoriasis. Some studies have also shown that CBD can reduce cell proliferation, which can help reduce dandruff.

Bee venom, which is extracted from the sting of honey bees, contains a variety of active ingredients, including melittin and apamin, which may have anti-inflammatory properties. Some research has shown that bee venom may be helpful in relieving inflammation and pain in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, but there is currently limited research on the use of bee venom in the treatment of skin disease psoriasis.

However, it is important to note that both CBD and bee venom can cause potential allergic reactions, especially in people with a hypersensitivity to bee products.

Summary

Unfortunately, there is no cure for skin disease psoriasis, yet cosmetic treatments can help relieve symptoms and soothe the skin.

Salicylic acid is a commonly used ingredient that removes dead skin cells and reduces flaking. Urea is a moisturiser that can help to smooth and hydrate dry and flaky skin. Pro-vitamin D3 can help regulate immune responses in the skin and reduce inflammation.

Colloidal oatmeal is another ingredient that may be helpful in treating skin disease psoriasis by soothing the skin and keeping it moisturised. Capsaicin can reduce itching and pain by blocking the release of pain neurotransmitters. Tea tree oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and can therefore be helpful in treating skin disease psoriasis.

In addition, it is important to maintain gentle cleansing and moisturising to keep the skin healthy and supple. It is also advisable to avoid direct sunlight and apply sunscreen, as sunburn can worsen symptoms.

Cosmacon has been providing the cosmetic service individual formulation development for more than 10 years and surely we can help your skin disease psoriasis relief product to be a success.

Feel free to ask us if we may develop an effective skin disease psoriasis product for you.
