Mechanical Peeling

Mechanical Peeling

A peeling application is meant to refresh the skin and make it smooth. The skin is able to absorb substances better after mechanical peeling, and the pores are reduced in size. Intensive cleansing can be applied once per week or once per month, depending on the skin condition. Regular mechanical peelings stimulate collagen and elastin production. On average, the skin naturally renews itself every 28 days. Mechanical peeling ensures that pigmented cells are loosened and removed.

The positive effects of this type of peeling are:

  • Smoother skin, and wrinkles are smoothed out
  • Removal of keratinous tissue (hyperkeratosis)
  • Removal of light-induced cell damage and pigment spots
  • Pore size reduction
  • Increase of release of basic fibroblast growth for the formation of collagen and elastin fibres
  • Softening up of pustules and papules and thereby making it easier to thoroughly clean the affected skin, which is particularly important for acne-prone skin

Impure or Mixed Skin

People with this skin type can improve their skin condition by applying a mechanical peeling agent onto the skin once a week, with soft and circling movements. The peeling agents help open the pores so that innocuous fluid build-up, also known as sebum plags or comedos, can drain. After an intensive cleansing procedure, the refreshed skin gets a healthy rosy complexion.

Sensitive and Dry Skin

If you have this skin type you should only use mild peeling agents with very small, rounded peeling particles. Intensive cleansing is advisable once a month but not more often because sensitive skin should not be overly strained. After the mechanical peeling procedure, an intensive skin care mask will soothe the sensitive skin and is therefore recommended.

Mature Skin and Men’s Skin

Skin types of this category are mostly less sensitive and well suited for peeling agents with a coarse texture. Mechanical peeling is advisable once a week and will turn out reduced pores and will help prevent ingrown hair. Some may still prefer more aggressive peeling agents that are also available on the market. They contain fruit acid or salicylic acid which help remove cutaneous skin even more powerfully and in depth, and will also bring about an anti-wrinkle effect that will last for several hours.

For bearded men, a mechanical peeling agent should be applied prior to shaving in order to prevent ingrown hair.

Body Peeling

Body peeling products are ideally used while showering. However, those that like to apply self-tanning lotion to their skin, are advised to carry out mechanical peeling in order to prepare your skin to tan well and evenly, when the self-tanning lotion is applied.

Mechanical peelings help protect against ingrown hair, which is important for all those who remove hair regularly. And again, it’s the weekly peeling that makes the difference, and will make your skin shine.

If you suspect that your particular peeling product is doing more harm than good to your skin, try a different approach. Especially if you have atopic eczemas, e.g. neurodermatitis, or acne rosacea, mechanical peeling is not recommend. But rather, use a facial cleansing brush with a soft brush to see how your skin responds that this cleansing treatment. Please also note that your skin is more sensitive to sun exposure after peeling and does not like to be exposed to intensive sunlight, especially around noon time. The ideal time for peeling applications is in the late afternoon or evening hours.
