Capsicum Frutescens Extract
In the kitchen or in a restaurant, everyone has probably made the acquaintance of a chili pepper. The hot peppers often burn like fire and heat us up inside. Nevertheless, we love them because they can be used to spice up a wide variety of dishes. The alkaloid capsaicin is primarily responsible for the enormous heat. The substance acts on various receptors in the organism and thus triggers a heat stimulus. Capsaicin is the main active ingredient in chili peppers that gives them their spicy heat. It is an alkaloid compound that stimulates the heat receptors in the mouth, resulting in a sensation of warmth or burning. Capsicum Frutescens Extract is used in many medicinal and cosmetic products for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also used as a food additive to add heat and flavor to dishes, especially in spicy cuisine.
Properties: Capsaicin
According to the Scoville scale, which ranks the pungency of fruits of the bell pepper plant, capsaicin is about twice as hot (16,000,000 Scoville units) as the capsaicinoids homodihydrocapsaicin, homocapsaicin and nordihydrocapsaicin, which are also found in chili. Basically, all capsaicinoids are temperature stable, so they do not decompose when frozen or cooked. They are not water soluble, but dissolve in fats and ethanol. Anyone who has eaten very spicy foods will know that water does not relieve the burning sensation in the mouth and throat, but fatty foods such as cheese and milk certainly help.
Where is Capsicum Frutescens Extract typically used?
The extract from the dried Capsicum frutescens fruit is called Capsicum Frutescens Extract and is usually obtained by cold extraction. About seven to ten kilograms of pods are needed for one kilogram of Capsicum Frutescens Extract. Numerous positive properties are attributed to the extract. For example, it has a very good circulation-promoting effect: many are already familiar with the soothing effect of heat plasters or ointments, which are used very successfully for muscle and joint complaints. Horse balm, a well-known and proven remedy for tension and back pain, usually also contains Capsicum Frutescens Extract. Capsaicin also performs valuable services for rheumatic and neuropathic complaints. In addition, Capsicum Frutescens Extract has antibiotic properties. It can kill fungi and bacterial pathogens and has a disinfecting effect. In some tropical and hot and humid regions (for example in Central America and the Far East), people therefore traditionally season their food with chili, because this helps to prevent possible bacterial diseases of the digestive system in advance. In Germany, pure capsaicin may not be added to food. Capsicum Frutescens Extract, on the other hand, is permitted without restriction. For use in the flavor industry, Capsicum Frutescens Extract with a capsaicinoid content of about six percent is usually used.
Chili Extract in cosmetics
Capsicum Frutescens Extract is an excellent choice for sophisticated hair care products. The capsaicin it contains improves blood circulation to the scalp, supplying the hair roots with nutrients and additional oxygen. In this way, the hair follicles gain strength and hair growth is stimulated. Regular use of a shampoo with Capsicum Frutescens Extract is even said to be able to reduce hair loss. Those who have oily hair usually quickly find that excessive sebum production is slowed down by Capsicum Frutescens Extract, so that the hair stays fresh and beautiful longer. Furthermore, ChiliExtract can inhibit the formation of dandruff. Lifeless and dull hair, on the other hand, gets more shine and fullness.
Capsicum Frutescens Extract is also used in skin care. It is particularly suitable for flabby, sallow, and aged skin. Due to the circulation-promoting effect, the skin appears fresher, healthier, more youthful, and vibrant. Capsicum Frutescens Extract can also be helpful for skin irritations caused by bacteria.
Another interesting field of application is body care: numerous products for cellulite treatment already contain Capsicum Frutescens Extract. Here again, the focus is on the circulation-promoting effect. In winter, a warming body scrub with Capsicum Frutescens Extract is a real boon: for the skin, which is severely stressed by the cold and the heating air, but also for the soul. Chili is also considered a natural fat burner and is appreciated by strength athletes as well as by people who want to lose weight or do something for their figure. The reason: capsaicin boosts the metabolism and is said to be able to inhibit the appetite. For cosmetic formulations, the extract is often combined with high-quality vegetable oils. This can be sunflower oil, but also rapeseed or olive oil.
In principle, products containing Capsicum Frutescens Extract should not be applied to irritated or injured skin. Use on children is not advised. Pregnant women should also avoid products containing chili if possible. People with sensitive skin sometimes react to Capsicum Frutescens Extract with redness or a burning sensation. Important: Under no circumstances should it come into contact with the eyes. Therefore, everyone should wash their hands thoroughly after using chili products. Of course, there are also quality differences in Capsicum Frutescens Extract. The pods used should therefore ideally come from organic cultivation.
