Dermatological cosmetics
Introduction
Dermatologists, also known as skin specialists, look after the largest organ of our body in terms of surface area: the skin. However, before they can do so, they have to complete extensive training. After studying human medicine and obtaining their licence to practise, they then have to undergo five years of specialist training. Only then are they allowed to work as dermatologists. However, once they have completed their training, they have first-class specialist knowledge.
Dermatological cosmetics are based on this excellent specialist and skin-physiological knowledge. And they enjoy an excellent reputation, because who could offer or recommend more suitable and effective products than a dermatologist, who knows the skin condition of his patients very well? Through personal contact with them, he can also precisely document any skin changes and compare them at any time. Thanks to their expertise, dermatologists are also able to handle the high doses of active ingredients responsibly. Patients and/or customers can rely on the quality of the ingredients, the effectiveness and the tolerability. All of this naturally gives users a good feeling, which in turn makes dermatological cosmetics so trustworthy and successful.
What distinguishes high-quality dermatological cosmetics from conventional products?
Dermatologists should not offer their patients conventional products from large corporations. These often do not contain a sufficiently high concentration of active ingredients and sometimes even contain unsuitable compositions. This is why they cannot optimally combat the numerous skin and hair problems.
Dermatological cosmetics that a doctor passes on to his patients should be specifically tailored to the respective symptoms and needs. These can be very different and therefore require carefully selected dermatological cosmetics. Typical skin complaints that patients visit their dermatologist with are irritation, redness and spots. Here, the doctor must first of course get to the bottom of the cause of the problem. Once the trigger of the complaints has been found, high-quality dermatological cosmetics can alleviate the symptoms or even make them disappear completely.
Atopic skin, which may even be prone to eczema, is also one of the most common conditions seen by dermatologists. It can be a considerable burden for those affected. With their extensive specialist knowledge and thanks to their personal relationship with the patient, doctors are able to recommend exactly the right dermatological cosmetics to help the person concerned. Some people simply expect too much of their skin. It is then over-cared for and reacts with itching, a feeling of tension, an unpleasant burning sensation or spots and pimples. In this case, the answer is clear: the stressed skin needs to recover! The specialist knows exactly which skin care products will help.
Hair also often causes problems. Perhaps because it falls out, is much too thin or because annoying dandruff is noticeable. In such cases, conventional products off the shelf are usually not enough. With good dermatological cosmetics, however, the mane can soon be lush, healthy and supple again, and the formation of dandruff is also prevented.
What makes good dermatological cosmetics?
The focus is on the use of high-dose active ingredients, as already mentioned. This is the most important distinguishing feature compared to conventional products and acts as a trademark for dermatological cosmetics. At least as important is the very good dermatological tolerance, even for sensitive skin. This is also an absolute must for dermatological cosmetics. The third pillar is formed by booster products, which provide relief that is just as fast as it is long-lasting.
After all, those affected often suffer immensely from their complaints, and one of the main tasks of a dermatologist is to relieve them as quickly and as long as possible. Examples include oils with vitamin F for dry skin, moisturising boosters with glycerine, urea, aquaporins, high-dose hyaluronic acid and osmolytes. Ceramide boosters with various ceramides, for example, are ideal for restoring the natural skin barrier. DMS base creams are also very important. DMS stands for “Derma Membrane Structure”, and the corresponding dermatological cosmetics are ideal for regenerating a damaged skin barrier.
Special products as dermatological cosmetics
It is not only the figure that can have “problem areas”; the skin can also be particularly sensitive, irritated or extremely dry in certain places. For example, on the eyelids: here the skin is generally very sensitive and dries out easily. It is often irritated or even flaky. The eyelids also require special care for atopic and allergic skin. An eyelid cream is therefore the ideal dermatological cosmetic. The skin also often causes problems on the elbows. This is because there are only a few sebaceous glands here. However, also skin diseases such as psoriasis and neurodermatitis often cause very rough and sometimes even cracked skin on the elbows. An elbow balm with concentrated active ingredients quickly provides relief.
Specialised dermatological cosmetics are also important in the field of oncology. The care products should be tailored to the individual needs and type of therapy (e.g. chemotherapy), which means that conventional cosmetics are out of the question here. Anyone who suffers from itching for various reasons needs dermatological cosmetics that can alleviate this.
Hair and scalp also sometimes need special care. One example that is often requested is a hair growth serum.
We should also not forget the little patients at the dermatologist, because they too often have to deal with skin problems at a young age. However, since children’s skin is very different from that of adults, their care products also have to be formulated differently. Cosmetics for children from dermatologists are extremely high-quality and should not be confused with the somewhat dubious trend of Sephora Kids!
