Hair thickening with azelaic acid

Hair thickening with azelaic acid, hair growth

Introduction to azelaic acid

Azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that occurs naturally in wheat, rye and barley. It is known for its many uses in skin care, particularly in the treatment of acne and rosacea. However, recent studies have shown that also hair strengthening and hair thickening with azelaic acid is possible.

Physical and chemical properties of azelaic acid:

Chemical formula: C9H16O4
Molecular weight: 188.22 g/mol
Melting point: 106-108 °C
Solubility: soluble in water, ethanol and acetone
Appearance: White to off-white powder
Efficacy: Studies have shown that azelaic acid can stimulate hair follicles, resulting in increased hair density. A significant improvement in hair density and strength was observed in a study of 31 subjects. The subjects reported a visible improvement in hair structure and thickness after regular use of azelaic acid.

Hair thickening with azelaic acid

Azelaic acid works on multiple levels to promote hair growth and improve hair density. The main mechanism is based on the inhibition of 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is known to cause hair loss. By inhibiting this enzyme, azelaic acid reduces the level of DHT, which slows down hair loss and promotes hair growth.

Cosmetic products for hair thickening with azelaic acid

There are several cosmetic products on the market that contain azelaic acid to promote hair growth and increase hair density. Here are some recommended products:

Azelaic acid serum: A light serum that is applied directly to the scalp. It contains a high concentration of azelaic acid and is ideal for daily use.
Azelaic acid shampoo: This shampoo combines azelaic acid with other nourishing ingredients to cleanse the scalp while stimulating hair growth.
Azelaic acid hair mask: An intensive treatment that is applied once a week to strengthen hair follicles and increase hair density.

Specific data from the efficacy study with 31 subjects

The efficacy of azelaic acid for hair thickening was investigated in a placebo-controlled study with 31 subjects. The study lasted 12 weeks and the subjects applied a solution with azelaic acid to the scalp twice a day. At the end of the study, 85% of the participants reported a significant increase in hair density. The average increase in hair density was 18% and 75% of participants noticed an improvement in hair thickness and quality.

Conclusion

Azelaic acid not only is a skin-lightening agent but also offers a promising solution for people suffering from hair loss and wanting to improve their hair density. Hair thickening with azelaic acid is scientifically proven and positive results from clinical studies show that azelaic acid is a valuable addition to hair care products. Products containing azelaic acid can help to increase hair density, strengthen hair and promote healthier and fuller hair overall.
