The peach (Prunus persica) is a tree that grows up to eight meters high and is native within Europe, especially in Italy, Spain and Greece. However, it originates from China. It belongs to the rose family (Rosaceae), which also includes the almond and apricot trees. Its fruits, the peaches, are counted among the stone fruits and are extremely popular in our country. They are sold in stores either fresh or canned fruit. However, the flesh of the fruit is also good for making jam or compote.

The seeds of the fruit, which are hidden in a hard shell inside the peach, are by no means worthless, quite the contrary. A high-quality vegetable oil, peach kernel oil, is obtained from them by cold pressing. The oil content in the pits is about 40 to 50 percent. Peach kernel oil is slightly yellowish and has a faint nutty, pithy scent that is somewhat reminiscent of almonds. It contains many valuable ingredients, and the fatty acid composition is particularly interesting. For example, peach kernel oil is rich in palmitic acid, myristic acid, palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid, linoleic acid and arachidic acid. Oleic acid is particularly strong, with a content of 60 to 70 percent. The linoleic acid content is about 22 percent. In addition, peach kernel oil contains many valuable vitamins.

Thanks to this rich composition, peach kernel oil is an excellent choice for cosmetic formulations. After all, everyone wants to have a peach-smooth skin, and here peach kernel oil is virtually ideal as a leading oil.

Peach kernel oil in cosmetic products

Peach kernel oil is still relatively rare in cosmetic products. Yet it is ideally suited for skin care, so this will certainly change in the future. This is due, on the one hand, to the vitamins it contains. The high content of vitamin A, vitamin E, as well as several B vitamins ensures a strengthening of skin and hair, as well as improved resistance. However, since the main effect of the oil is primarily based on the mentioned unsaturated fatty acids, it also provides a lot of moisture at the same time. Thus, it is perfect especially for dry skin.

The omega-6 fatty acid linoleic acid contained in peach kernel oil can soothe skin irritations and has an anti-inflammatory effect. This fact contributes to the fact that pure peach kernel oil is also suitable for use on irritated skin. The antioxidants it contains can slow down skin aging processes, which justifies its use in the anti-aging field. And that is not all. For example, if the skin is irritated after intensive sunbathing, the oil helps to soothe it. Due to its excellent compatibility, peach kernel oil may even be used for baby care or for children. And for those who want an exclusive massage oil, peach kernel oil is also an ideal choice. However, it is important that it is pure oil without chemical additives. Organic quality is clearly to be preferred.

Furthermore, the oil acts as an ideal “enhancer” for other active ingredients, as it promotes their transport to the lower layers of the skin.

Peach kernel oil is very easy to apply and spread. It provides a very pleasant soft skin feeling and does not leave a sticky film. But the oil is also a recommended option for hair care, because it helps the hair to more volume.
