Rambutan extract
The evergreen rambutan tree originally comes from Southeast Asia, but is now also native to the Caribbean, some African countries and parts of Australia. It is related to the lychee tree and bears roundish-oval fruits twice a year, which look very unusual at first glance. They are covered with dense hairy bristles, which gave the tree its name, because the Malay word “rambat” means “hair”. Like the lychee tree, the rambutan tree (Nephelium lappaceum) belongs to the soap tree family (Sapindaceae). Its fruits taste sweet to sour and are somewhat reminiscent of grapes. They are sold between June and October in many Asian grocery shops and sometimes also in well-stocked supermarkets. Furthermore, rambutan extract can be obtained from them, an ingredient that, thanks to its composition, is also becoming more and more popular in cosmetics.
Rambutan extract and its benefits
Rambutan extract is known for numerous health-promoting benefits. For example, the fruit is rich in copper and manganese: the body needs copper for the formation of red and white blood cells, manganese is important for the production and activation of enzymes. The proportion of phosphorus, iron and calcium is also high. Thus, rambutan extract not only contributes to strengthening bones and teeth, it also helps the kidneys to get rid of harmful deposits. In addition, rambutan extract has antiseptic qualities, which means it can help fight infections. More and more often, rambutan extract is also used for weight reduction. This is not only due to the extraordinarily high water content of the fruit, which can prevent hunger attacks during a diet, but also to the enormous fibre content, which is also extremely high at 2.00 grams per 100.00 grams of fruit.
Scientists also found out that rambutan extract can protect against various types of cancer. This is mainly due to the gallic acid contained in it, which is able to capture free radicals and thus protect the body’s own cells from damage. By reducing long-term oxidative damage, the gallic acid in rambutan extract is said to inhibit the development and growth of malignant cancer cells.
Rambutan extract in cosmetics
The many valuable ingredients already give an idea: Rambutan extract is an excellent ingredient in high-quality cosmetic products. The high water content hydrates the skin and makes it supple, smooth and soft. In many cases, the complexion looks more youthful and plumper after using products with rambutan extract.
Rambutan extract is particularly suitable for dry, mature and sensitive skin because it can strengthen the epidermal structure, supply the cells with new energy and at the same time protect them from harmful environmental influences.
Thus, it can be integrated not only in day creams, but also in concentrated boosters and night creams. In night creams, for example, it takes on the task of a regeneration booster that can slow down the skin’s ageing process.
And rambutan is also very suitable for hair care. Here it is mainly extracts of the leaves and seeds that have an effect. They nourish and revitalise the hair, making it look shinier, fuller and more vibrant.
And not only that: shampoo with rambutan refreshes every single strand and acts as a “hair deodorant” that can protect against bad odours. In addition, the hair is better and easier to comb after washing. We offer the development of natural cosmetics with rambutan and can develop a product with an active ingredient containing rambutan for your brand in a fitting and valuable way.
