Shaving foam
Ready-made shaving foam from a can is incredibly practical because it saves a lot of time. All you have to do is press a button and the finished foam comes out of the container with the perfect consistency. The cumbersome and sometimes time-consuming lathering process, which is necessary and usual with a classic shaving soap, is completely eliminated here. Even the traditional shaving set, which consists of a shaving brush, soap, and bowl, does not have to be purchased. The task of shaving foam is clear: it is to improve the gliding of the razor blade over the skin so that it is not irritated and no injuries occur. In addition, the foam usually contains valuable substances that nourish and moisturise the skin.
Advantages of shaving foam from a can
Good foam development is therefore very important so that the beard hairs are soaked and the hairs stand up for shaving. After all, beard hairs are in principle somewhat thicker, harder, and sometimes wirier than the hairs in other parts of the body, which is probably due to the fact that they were originally intended to protect the face.
An optimal result is guaranteed by a shaving foam from an aerosol can that is as compact as possible and can also be distributed well without additional aids. Shaving foam allows the razor blade to glide gently and softly over the skin. It not only protects the skin, but also the blade, which stays sharp much longer due to the easier gliding. Of all the shaving aids, the foam requires the least amount of time. Both application and spreading are quick, uncomplicated, and trouble-free. For many men, this is the most important advantage of ready-made shaving foam from a can, especially in everyday life. If desired, the foam can also be diluted with a little warm water.
Some men also use shaving gel as an alternative. Unlike foam, however, gel is slightly transparent and not completely opaque. It is therefore easier to keep an eye on the areas to be shaved with gel. Nevertheless, this variant also has a disadvantage: gel does not soften or swell the beard hair as well. Foam is therefore much more suitable for larger facial areas, while transparent gel is ideal for shaving the contours.
When it comes to aerosols, a distinction is made between shaving foam with propellant gas and bag-on-valve shaving gel. Bag-on-Valve shaving gel does not use LPG propellant and is considered very environmentally friendly while providing excellent product protection (no direct contamination). In the case of shaving foam with propellant, the contents are released by the internal pressure of the spray can exactly when the user presses on the spray head.

The variants are called classic, cool or sensitive. The classic foam is suitable for men with normal facial skin. On the other hand, if you have particularly sensitive skin that is prone to redness and irritation, a sensitive foam is a better choice. Such a formula contains special ingredients and offers sensitive skin gentle protection and pleasantly mild care.
As the name suggests, the “cool” version of shaving foam has an extra mild and slightly cooling formula. It protects the skin from stresses such as razor burn or reddened skin and has a nice refreshing effect at the same time. Perfect as a pick-me-up or as a freshness kick for the start of the day.
Shaving foam also possible without problematic substances
In many shaving foam products, polyethylene glycols (PEGs) are responsible for the compact foam. However, PEGs and also PEG derivatives have been considered questionable for some time because they make the facial skin more permeable and can thus promote the penetration of harmful substances. Polyethylene glycols are easy to recognise in the list of ingredients because they almost always have the capital letter PEG and a number behind it in the name, for example PEG-15 Glyceryl Oleate. However, nature offers some interesting alternatives to these synthetic raw materials. Such natural substances are so gentle and mild that they can even be used individually as skincare ingredients. Especially important: they have no hidden side effects. In addition, many cosmetic products contain microplastics. These extremely small plastic particles enter our environment with the waste water and cause inestimable damage there.
However, there are alternatives for microplastics that are already used in natural cosmetics. Consumers can recognise products that do not contain microplastics by the label “without polyquaternium”. Consumers can also choose ingredients such as aloe vera, vitamin E, allantoin and panthenol, which are considered safe and even highly recommended.
