Grapeseed oil

Grape seed Oil When buying grapes, those who like grapes often make sure that the grapes contain as few seeds as possible or none at all. This is a pity, because the seeds are extremely rich in valuable ingredients. Grapeseed oil is extracted from them: a vegetable oil that was already used in many ways in the Middle Ages. For example, it served as an ideal household remedy for treating small cuts.

And even today, the oil is considered a real all-rounder. It is also precious, because Grapeseed oil is one of the most expensive edible oils in the world. No wonder: to produce one litre of oil, 40 kilograms of grape seeds are needed. This is equivalent to about two tonnes of grapes. But the grapes do not have to be cultivated to produce the oil: They can be collected during the pressing of the wine as so-called pomace, which contains stems, leaves and skins in addition to the seeds. Grapeseed oil is produced either by refining or cold pressing, although cold pressing is by far the gentler process. Here, the valuable ingredients of the seeds are largely preserved in the oil.

The ingredients of Grapeseed oil include important unsaturated fatty acids. For example, there is linoleic acid, which is a nutrient in the human body that regenerates and maintains the upper layers of the skin. The oil also has a high vitamin E content, which provides effective protection against so-called free radicals. Other components of Grapeseed oil are phenols, minerals, lecithin, trace elements as well as vitamin K.

Grapeseed oil and its areas of application

Grapeseed oil has a very positive effect on our health. The oil improves blood flow, keeps cholesterol levels at a healthy level, strengthens the nerves and boosts fat burning. It can be used for cooking, baking and frying and is suitable for cold dishes (for example salads) as well as for warm dishes. But Grapeseed oil is more than just a valuable cooking oil.

It also plays an important role in skin care. The already mentioned high vitamin E content slows down the ageing process and keeps the skin elastic. This effectively prevents the formation of wrinkles. The high content of linoleic acid also supports the flexibility of the upper skin layers. The oil therefore works against unsightly cornification in the long term by keeping the production of the sebaceous glands in balance. Grapeseed oil is absorbed very quickly and does not leave a greasy film. The oil is generally suitable for all skin types. However, impure, mature and dry skin particularly benefits from its use. When buying the oil, however, make sure that it is a virgin oil. This ensures that the highest possible proportion of the important ingredients reaches the skin.

Grapeseed oil is often used for bath additives, creams and massage oils.

Alternative practitioners also appreciate the oil and like to use it as part of aromatherapy.

But ingredients such as unsaturated fatty acids, minerals and vitamins A, E and B6 also have an extremely positive effect on the hair. Those who regularly use hair care products with Grapeseed oil can soon look forward to more shine and suppleness.

The particularly valuable cold-pressed oil has a light green colour and a rather nutty taste that is not necessarily reminiscent of grapes. Hot-pressed Grapeseed oil is predominantly tasteless and odourless.

But there are even more products that are made from the seeds of grapes. Grape seed flour, for example, is a by-product of the production of the oil. It is well suited for baking and gives dishes a subtle tart flavour. Grape seed extract in capsule form is also becoming increasingly popular. The capsules are used, among other things, to support a therapy against neurodermatitis.
